What Should I Read this Summer?

Do you need ideas for what to read? You sure have lots of time on your hands since summer break is about to begin. Here are just a FEW of the many options that could help you pick your next read:

ALSC Summer Book Lists

ALSC stands for Association of Library Service to Children, and it is a division of ALA which stands for American Library Association. ALA is the national organization for all public and school libraries. For the COVID-19 summer of 2020, ALSC has posted reading lists by age group or grades. Click on the images below to see the recommend new titles. If you are in going to be a 6th, 7th, or 8th grader in August 2020, you should be happy to see many of the SSYRA Gr. 6-8 2020-2021 nominees made your list. That's impressive and to me means the FAME committee who selects the SSYRA nominee books is picking well. ;)

Harry Potter

Books on the grass

If you are in 5th grade or higher and haven't read the first Harry Potter book, I say you should give it a go. J.K. Rowling just announced her newest book, The Ickabog, is being released online in chapter installments. As of today, the first eight chapters have been released on the book's website. I don't recall an author doing this before. This era of digital reading is changing how EVERYONE reads! It's so awesome!! Maybe it is COVID-19 changing everything too. Her new book will be published and released in print format in November. In the meantime, she is hosting a contest for artwork for her new book. Check out the details for that here, and see what she is going to do with the royalties to The Ickabog. I love it!!!
