BryteWave K-12 Edition App (Part 1 of 2)

Update: 2017-2018 School Year

This app is now Destiny Discover. Go to the Using Destiny Discover for Students post for instructions on how to use the app.

Students in grades 4-8 should notice a new app on their school iPad this school year. It is the BryteWave K-12 App which I call Destiny's buddy app for reading and borrowing our library's collection of Follett eBooks. FYI--Follett is the vendor we currently purchase our eBooks from in our collection. When the day comes that we purchase some eBooks from another vendor, there will be another eReader to access those eBooks. Don't mean to confuse you but need to tell you why I bother to write "Follett eBooks" rather than just "eBooks". ;)

When a student or teacher wishes to borrow a Follett eBook from our collection, there are different ways to do so. However, selecting your Brytewave K-12 app is the quickiest way to both check out the eBook and begin reading it.

How to Check Out an eBook

Here is the how-to-guide for Accessing eBooks with the BryteWave K-12 Edition App to read our library's collection of Follett Shelf eBooks anywhere. In order to receive our Follett Shelf URL or your username and password (if you forgot), please email me here. I'll send you the information securely this way.

Below is the guide broken down for you:

It is very important that you CHECKOUT the eBook so you have it borrowed in your library account. If you do not checkout the eBook and only OPEN it, the eBook will not be accessible to you for very long nor will you be able to use the tools (i.e. My Notebook for note taking, highlighting, etc) the eBook offers the reader/borrower. The My Notebook tool saves the notes, highlighting, and tags you leave in a particular eBook that you can view at an time even when that particular eBook is not on loan to you any longer. Very cool! This is way you must CHECKOUT every eBook you choose to read. Are you cataching on now???

Part 2 of this blog post will be published later this month. There is a lot to learn about using BryteWave K-12 Edition app to take full advantage of reading an eBook, so that is why I have chosen to split this post into two parts. If you are eager to learn it all now, here is the link to the BryteWave K-12 Edition Quick Reference Guide I will be using in the Part 2 post.

Let me know in the comments below if you are an eager beaver (or eBook reader) and want to learn more NOW! I'll get a move on writing that post now just for you. :)
